An American Wail: Blythwood Goes South
Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 @ 8pm (Burdock Music Hall, 1184 Bloor St West)
Blythwood celebrates the rich legacy of music written by our esteemed American neighbours.
This program features music spanning seventy years, including Amy Beach's serene Pastorale, Op. 151 (1942), the high-charged, passionate journey through Eastern Europe, by way of the Romani in Valerie Coleman's Tzigane (2011).
The concert pairs Jennifer Higdon's homage to Samuel Barber in Autumn Music (1995) alongside his original wind quintet classic, Summer Music (1956).
Topping the evening, Blythwood undertakes David Maslanka's evocative Quintet for Winds No. 1 (1984), and the charming Aria and Quodlibet (2004) by the late Arne Running.
Make a night of it and grab a bite at Burdock beforehand!
