Donate to Blythwood WinDS
The Blythwood Winds have been unabashed in the pursuit of our goal to reshape the wind quintet for the modern age. We are proud to report that through our series of “Hogtown Roundup” concerts over the past two years, we have successfully commissioned five new works for wind quintet and presented seven world premieres by a diverse group of local composers. It’s with great pleasure that we’ve been able to re-mount performances of several of these pieces at subsequent concerts.
These performances have successfully engaged community audiences with new and local composers. They provide an environment in which new music creators can forge the next steps forward for art music, in tandem with their communities. Our efforts to contribute these ideas and experience to the artscape of our city has been and continues to be an act of pride and joy. But most importantly, these accomplishments were only possible because of your support and patronage.
At our season finale on Saturday, June 10th, we presented Voices of Canadian Women at Toronto’s Heliconian Hall. Featuring works by seven women composers of diverse styles written over a span of thirty-one years, Voices of Canadian Women featured a new commission, a world premiere and a remount of a previous “Hogtown Roundup” commission. Thanks to your support, we were able to give voice to these composers, allowing Toronto audiences to have a glimpse into the unique perspective each of them brings to the worlds of wind quintet performance and art music.
Together, we have already accomplished so much, but it is only with your continued support that we can persist in our dreams and fulfill the next steps in the evolution of our mission. I hope you will donate to the Blythwood Winds this year. Your gift will play a crucial role in our ongoing pursuit to recontextualize, intertwine, and draw lines of organic interdependence between art music, the music of our city, and new and local composers. Help us bring the exploration of these relationships to the audiences of our community and become a champion of the Canadian wind quintet.
Though we are proud of the work we have done so far, we have no intention of resting on our laurels. Future plans include more signature bar concerts with ambitious presentations of film music, traditional works from the wind quintet repertoire reimagined through the Blythwood lens of audience engagement, and of course, new commissions from local composers.
Each of us greatly values and respects your patronage. You have chosen to accompany us on a journey of cultural and community discovery, and we are very grateful for your participation in that voyage. But we also recognize that by supporting us as donor, our mission becomes your mission. Our impact and contribution to the cultural artscape of our city becomes your impact and contribution.
We challenge you now to take up your part and become an active collaborator in our mission by making a donation today. Your support, and your partnership, is essential for the Blythwood Winds to succeed in making a significant contribution to the cultural conversation in our community.
